Jay Eckles, Ed.D., provides private college counseling services to middle and high school students and their families, helping them know how to get into and pay for college. Services include overviews of the process, support in planning and organizing, and building and reviewing application materials.
Dr. Eckles earned his Doctor of Education degree in Higher and Adult Education from the University of Memphis in 2011, having previously earned degrees in computer science, business administration, and information science from Rhodes College and the Pennsylvania State University. He worked in higher education for over 15 years at two highly selective liberal arts colleges and at a state flagship university system. In those jobs he provided direct support to the admissions and financial aid offices, helping them develop the processes they use to evaluate applications, determine financial aid packages, and manage the data surrounding these processes. He was also responsible for conducting research on American higher education as a whole, informing college presidents and trustees on competition among institutions, student marketing techniques, economic trends affecting enrollment, the impact of pricing changes, and similar issues that drive admission and financial aid policy.
Outside his role as a higher education employee, Dr. Eckles has volunteered for years guiding students on the path to college through two churches, the tnAchieves program, as a moderator of the million-member online community r/college, and as a member of the leadership team for the Tennessee Digital Jobs Factory. Dr. Eckles currently works in a leadership position at a world-renowned research laboratory and continues to teach as an adjunct faculty member at a flagship university. He is a husband and father of four, residing in Farragut, TN.
